Requirements / Acceptance for a guest or exchange period at the University of Applied Sciences of Special Needs Education Zurich
A basic knowledge of the German language is highly recommended. Lectures are primarily held in German.
Acceptance for a guest or exchange period is always valid for the coming, respectively two coming semesters only. It does not entitle automatic transfer to the University of Applied Sciences of Special Needs Education Zurich.
Health Insurance
Since January 1, 1996 it is necessary for everybody intending to stay for more than 3 months in Switzerland to have basic health insurance coverage. There are a few exceptions to this rule, including students who come to Switzerland on a guest or exchange period programme. It is necessary, however, to have equivalent insurance protection to cover all possible medical costs resulting in Switzerland.
If you already have a health insurance policy valid in your own country it will be necessary for you to check whether this conforms with Swiss basic insurance requirements. If this is the case, then please bring your European Health Insurance Card EHIC, an E111 form or confirmation of your cover in Switzerland from your insurer with you.
If your health insurance offers insufficient coverage then it will be necessary for you to take out additional health insurance. This is possible in Switzerland but will be expensive. Please note that without a valid insurance certificate you will be obliged to take out an insurance policy in Switzerland.
Visa
Students from 'old' EU countries must register with the respective Residents' Registration Office and apply for their visa there within 8 days of arriving in Switzerland.
Students from 'new' EU countries and all other countries must apply for a visa for a guest or exchange period at the Swiss embassy in their home country. Application will require a letter of confirmation from the University of Applied Sciences of Special Needs Education Zurich. Note: Please apply for your visa early. It usually takes 3 months for an application to be processed and entry into Switzerland is only possible with a valid visa. You can find a list of all Swiss Embassies here: www.eda.admin.ch/eda/de/home/reps.html
