Current situation and objective

Children and youths who exhibit sustained behavioural disorders in schools constitute a great challenge to teaching staff during integrative teaching.

Any number of studies shows that integration is an entirely feasible and highly promising route. Practising professionals, however, raise the question of how children with special emotional and/or social needs can be successfully integrated.

This research project explores the conditions necessary for the successful integration of pupils with behavioural disorders. Successful integration is based on the following criteria: Prevention of increase in current problems, a more or less successful school-related development, peer group acceptance and a realistic self-evaluation of the pupil's own problems.

This research project examines the following central questions: What does it take for pupils with behavioural disorders to learn and make school-related progress despite their handicap? How can the lessons themselves be designed to do justice to the heterogeneity of the pupils? The aspects of lesson design and class management are paramount. Many questions are raised with regard to the lessons themselves: What methodical-didactical concepts underlie lessons? What kind of learning (cooperative learning, open learning etc.) is to be employed in practice? What form will the actual class management and conflict management take? What effect does the methodical-didactical and interactive concepts have on pupils' behaviour? To what extent does this task-based work and learning influence pupils with behavioural disorders? Empirically gained knowledge with regard to the design of lessons containing pupils with behavioural disorders shall contribute to practical recommendations and didactical building blocks for the further training of teaching staff.
